ECMVC raise funds for Breast Cancer charity

ECMVC are delighted to be supporting the Amazon Breast Cancer Awareness Group based at King’s Mill Hospital in Mansfield.

The charity works to benefit the pathway of local breast cancer patients at King’s Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield, and they are just marking their 30th year of this support. It’s a pearl!

They were founded in 1995 by Specialist Breast Care Oncology Nurses, Liz Hunter and Ann Adams who spoke to patients and concluded that help was needed in addition to medical care. For three decades the group that evolved have offered support to bridge the gap between diagnosis, medical care, discharge and everything that comes after. Quite soon after formation as a Support Group, they became a registered charity.

The group welcome people (with a partner or friend) at all stages of their journey, to Open Support Meetings on the second Tuesday of each month (except in August) from 5pm until 6.30pm in the Amazon Lounge in Clinic 14 at King’s Mill Hospital. Three annual fundraising events are normally organised each year: a Fashion Show, a Race Night and a Tombola out in the community in October to raise breast cancer awareness, which is one of the group’s priorities.

100% of the funds raised is used to support local people at King’s Mill Hospital and in the 30 years that has amounted to approximately £250,000.

You can learn more about the group and its work by visiting their website and following their Facebook page (The Amazon Breast Cancer Support Group). Donations can be made online via their JustGiving page.

ECMVC are proud to be supporting this deserving cause over the coming months.
