Eastwood Collieries’ Male Voice Choir has been active throughout Eastwood and surrounding area for over a hundred years. The choir was born out of the need to provide a means of enjoying music and associated social gatherings for those working in the coal industry. Whilst ECMVC are very proud of our heritage, we have not stood still and rested on our laurels; we have adapted our approach to singing to reflect the changing tastes in music over the years and we continue to provide great entertainment through our performances throughout the year.
But we have a burning ambition to create opportunities for community groups and organisations to experience the fun, enjoyment and mood-lifting effects of meeting together and having a sing, even with little or no experience; everyone can sing!
The health and wellbeing benefits of singing and music are widely known. In 2026, we are aiming to put singing at the heart of our community through a number of special events during the year and we would like you to join us!
If you’d like to find out more about this project idea, we have organised an evening for that purpose at Greasley Miners’ Welfare on Monday 2nd February, starting at 7pm. There will be the opportunity to listen to our plans, have a sing with our choir in a relaxed and friendly setting and stay around afterwards for a chat and a drink. Little or no experience required, just come and join us as we share ideas and start to prepare to ‘Sing Up for Eastwood and District!’
