St Mary’s Church, Eastwood – celebrating 50 years

All but the tower of St Mary’s Church, Eastwood, was destroyed by fire in 1963. In September 1967, the new church was consecrated by the Bishop of Southwell and it is this milestone that is being celebrated with a concert of local music performed by Eastwood Collieries’ Male Voice Choir and Rock ‘n’ Soul Singers of Underwood.

St Mary’s is the adopted base of ECMVC, who practise and perform home concerts in this wonderful venue. For the last 15 years or so, ECMVC have met in the parish room at St Mary’s every Tuesday night and the choir is privileged to have been invited to perform at this major milestone in the church’s ‘new’ life. ECMVC will be performing items that reflect their changing repertoire of the last 50 years and the co-performers on the night, Rock ‘n’ Soul Singers, will ensure that the evening will be a fabulous mix of songs, old and new.

This will be the second time the two choirs have shared the same stage – the first time was back in October 2016, when R’n’S organised the highly successful ‘Octoberfest’ at Underwood Church. The venue then was a sell-out and we expect the two choirs will help draw a capacity crowd again at St Mary’s.

Tickets are expected to be in great demand, so to avoid disappointment, you are advised to purchase them in advance of the night.
